Former Zamalek board discloses renewal offer for Sassi

Ferjani Sassi

Former Zamalek board member Ibrahim Abdallah has revealed the details of their contract renewal offer for the Whites star midfielder Ferjani Sassi, admitting that the player’s commitment with the club ended months ago.

The Whites have been struggling to renew Sassi’s contract for the past months due to the lack of financial resources at the club and he is now allowed to join any club for free next summer, as his contract is set to expire.

The Tunisia international has been linked with many clubs in the Gulf region, including Qatari duo Al-Rayyan and Al-Duhail, being interested in his signature.

Zamalek, however, remained hopeful that they could persuade Sassi to remain at the club with the head of the normalization committee, Hussein Labib, saying that they are prepared to do whatever it takes.

But Sassi sent a cryptic message on Wednesday that seemed to have poured cold water on Labib’s endeavors, hinting at his possible departure this summer.

“Ayman Younis (former head of football at Zamalek) met Sassi’s agent Mohanad Aoun and offered up to €2,850 million which is equivalent to 55 million EGP. We were ready to sign the contracts but we discovered that Aoun has disappeared,” Abdallah told ON Time Sport TV.

“Sassi then flew to Turkey without permission. The agreement that he would go to Tunisia but afterwards he went to Turkey. Afterwards his agent called us to pay him €650K as late dues.”

“Sassi’s commitment with Zamalek ended long time ago, specifically when he said that he is heading to Tunisia claiming that his mother was sick and then he went to Turkey.”
