Zamalek coach: Al Ahly’s route to league title easier

Zamalek head coach Patrice Carteron has dismissed speculation that he requested that some of the Whites’ league games to be postponed, while also claiming that Al Ahly are in pole position to win the title.

Zamalek lead the Egyptian Premier League table after concluding 25 of their games this season to collect 55 points through 16 victories, seven draws and two defeats.

On the other hand, their arch rivals Al Ahly have played six games less due to their commitments in the Champions League and the Club World Cup. The Red Devils have 41 points from 19 matches played so far.

The Egyptian Football Association had recently announced new dates for the league rounds until the final matchday of the competition.

“I did not ask for any of Zamalek’s games to be postponed. I respect the EFA’s decisions for the new dates of the league and cup games,” Carteron told Zamalek’s official website.

“There are big gaps in the league table and the opposition will play several postponed matches in the coming period and could take the lead at the time Zamalek won’t be playing.”

“The current season was pressed in a short period because Al Ahly refused the cancellation of last season because they wanted to win the league while the majority of the clubs voted for the season to be called off.”

“Al Ahly could face teams that have no motives at the end of the season and this could make their mission easier,” he added.
