Captained by Al Ahly defender, Morocco domestic national team obtain friendly win

The domestic Moroccan national team have managed to achieve a friendly 2-1 victory over Moroccan Botola outfit Rapide Oued Zem on Wednesday in an encounter that saw the presence of Al Ahly defender Badr Benoun wearing the captain armband.

Benoun joined Al Ahly at the beginning of season 2020/21 and has been one of the team’s defensive pillars ever since due to his composure and ability to play the ball from the back.

Benoun participated in a total of 28 matches across all competitions since joining the Red Devils and has also scored four goals.

The 27-year-old defender was called up head coach Hussein Ammouta for the domestic national team of Morocco and aimed to make him central in his plans for the team.

A friendly game was organised between the domestic national team and the Moroccan league club as part of Ammouta’s team’s preparations in the international break.

Former Al Ahly forward and current Al Ettifaq hitman Walid Azarou scored the two goals which granted the victory for Morocco.

The game witnessed the participation of Benoun from the start, as he was assigned the captain for the team by the former Wydad Athletic Club manager.

In addition to Benoun, Zamalek forward Hamid Ahaddad was also included in the called up squad but did not feature as he had left the training camp in quick succession due to injury.
