HANDBALL: Yehia El-Deraa's Veszprém KC win Magyar Kupa

Egyptian international Yehia El-Deraa has led Veszprém KC to win the Men’s Hungarian Handball Cup 2022/2023 after beating Szeged 35-32.

El-Deraa has joined Veszprém in November 2021 on a two-year deal coming from African and Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek.

Having won the SEHA League in his debut season, El-Deraa has been searching for a second title in Europe, which was finally achieved on Sunday.

Veszprém KC beat SC Pick Szeged in the Magyar Kupa final, which saw Yehia El-Deraa score three goals to lead his team to their 30th Hungarian Cup.

El-Deraa will hope to complete the domestic double this season as Veszprém currently sit second in the Nemzeti Bajnokság (Hungarian League) with 39 points, only one behind leaders Szeged; however, El-Deraa’s club has a game in hand.

On the other hand, fellow Egypt national teammate Yahia Omar didn’t participate in the final game, having been sidelined until the end of the season, having torn his cruciate ligament.
