HANDBALL: Al Ahly crowned Egyptian Pro League champions after beating Zamalek

Al Ahly are crowned Handball Egyptian Pro League champions for a record-extending 23rd time after beating arch rivals Zamalek 24-21 in a decisive encounter.

A draw against Zamalek would have been enough for Al Ahly to be named champions as the victory raised their points tally to 29.5, three points from the White Knights.

The Red Devils secured their first title since 2018 ending Zamalek’s run of four successive titles.

The first-half was very tight between the two sides who entered the break tied at 12-12.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first one. Despite Al Ahly’s early lead, Zamalek quickly made it 15-15.

However, the following minutes witnessed Al Ahly taking a two-goal advantage as they went 23-21 after 27 minutes.

Ahmed El Ahmar could have reduce the deficit to just one goal with 90 seconds left on the clock, however, he had his penalty saved, before Al Ahly added another goal to secure their 23rd title.
