Egypt’s women beach volleyball team have been disqualified from the 2020 Tokyo qualifiers due to Covid-19 and the Egyptian Volleyball Federation sent an official complaint.

Egypt is currently competing in the African Beach Volleyball Continental Cup and managed to reach the semifinals, where they were set to face Nigeria on Saturday. The winner of the tournament immediately qualifies to the 2020 Olympics.

However, the players woke up to the shocking news that they have been disqualified and won’t be able to participate after the men’s national team coach, tested positive for Covid-19.

While the athletes themselves and their actual coach tested negative twice, the African Volleyball Federation took the decision because all of Egypt’s representatives could’ve gotten into contact with him in the bubble.

The Egyptian Volleyball Federation led by Ayman Ghezlan, decided to immediately contact the African Volleyball Federation to contest the decision.
