Pyramids rescue late draw against Marumo Gallants in Confederation Cup quarter-finals

Pyramids FC have held Marumo Gallants to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

The Cairo-based side made their way to the quarter-finals of the competition after finishing second in Group C behind AS Far on goal difference with 11 points.

They were later drawn against South Africa’s Marumo Gallants as they played the first leg at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides failed to find the breakthrough in the first half with Pyramids’ Mostafa Fathi hitting the post just two minutes before the break.

The home side went behind after 55 minutes as Ranga Chivaviro capitalised on an error by Ahmed El-Shennawy and gave Gallants the lead.

However, the referee handed Pyramids a lifeline as they were awarded a 90th-minute penalty for a handball inside the box.

Ramadan Sobhi converted successfully from the spot to level the scoreline and keep his side alive in the tie ahead of the return leg next week.
