Raja boss Mondher Kebaier rues penalty miss after Al Ahly draw

Raja Casablanca head coach Mondher Kebaier expressed his disappointment after his side’s Champions League exit.

The Moroccan giants crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing to Al Ahly 2-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Despite heading into the return leg with a two-goal cushion, Al Ahly had a difficult time in Morocco but managed to hold Raja to a goalless draw.

Yousri Bouzok spurned a golden opportunity to half the deficit for Raja before the end of the opening 45 minutes after they were awarded a penalty.

The 26-year-old’s spot-kick rattled the crossbar and was cleared away from danger on the rebound as his miss proved to be a turning point in the game.

Speaking after the game, Kebaier praised his team’s effort but also felt they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

“The players did what they had to do in terms of possession and creating chances but there were small details that were missing,” Mondher Kebaier said after the game.

“In football, you can work hard but there are things you cannot control such as missing a penalty for example.

“We needed more luck today but we had a good run in the Champions League,” he added.
