Al Ahly file CAF complaint against Al Hilal after Champions League encounter

Al Ahly have filed an official complaint to CAF just days after their Champions League victory against Sudan’s Al Hilal.

The Red Devils had secured qualification for the CAF Champions League quarter-finals in the final round of the group stages last week.

A 3-0 home victory over Al Hilal was enough for Al Ahly to finish second in Group B on goal difference with 10 points.

Mahmoud Kahraba gave Al Ahly the lead in the first half before Hussein El-Shahat came off the bench and netted a brace after the break to seal the victory.

Just like the reverse fixture, the game also witnessed controversy with local reports confirming altercations between Al Ahly players and opposing fans.

Additionally, Al Hilal had requested CAF to reduce the number of spectators despite Egyptian authorities allowing up to 50,000 fans.

“Following the misinformation that was reported by some media outlets about the Al Ahly-Al Hilal game in the Champions League, a letter has been sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) clarifying all the facts,” the club said in a statement.
