Ashour’s Midtjylland name Thomas Thomasberg as their manager

Danish giants FC Midtjylland have announced Thomas Thomasberg as their new manager after dismissing Albert Capellas.

Midtjylland had sacked Spain’s Albert Capellas last week following a series of poor results across all competitions.

The club have been on a downward spiral recently as they failed to win any of their last four games across all competitions.

Their winless run also saw the club drop to ninth place in the Danish Super League table as Capellas’ time came to an unfortunate end.

Following his dismissal, Midtjylland found a replacement for Capellas in Thomas Thomasberg who returns for a second spell after signing a three-year contract.

“Midtjylland is very close to me because I have been both a player and a coach at the club,” Thomasberg told the club’s website.

“Unfortunately, the results have not gone as expected, and that is of course the very first thing I have to work on.

“Midtjylland is a club that has to fight for titles, and we have to get the team back on the right track. Some things need to be changed, but the team is still very good,” he added.

Thomasberg had previously managed Midtjylland between 2008 and 2009 while also having stints at FC Hjørring, FC Fredericia, Hobro IK, and most recently, Randers FC.

Midtjylland are set to kick off the league’s relegation playoffs against Odense Boldklub on Friday, March 31st.
