A late goal from Marcus Rashford gave Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Hull City in the Premier League’s third matchday at the KCOM Stadium.

Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady played the full 90 minutes as the Tigers suffered their first defeat of the new Premier League season.

Both teams have found a hard time having possession in the first few minutes of the match. Manchester United’s first real chance of the game came at the 9th minute when Anthony Martial’s cross found Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s header which almost glanced off the crossbar but went high instead.

Twenty-five minutes on the clock, the Tigers found themselves having their first real chance, as Andrew Robertson executed a low cross that found Robert Snodgrass, who attempted the low header at the far post but only found himself sliding and eventually colliding with the post. The former Norwich City FC forward appeared to be injured but received a treatment shortly after.

After effortless saves from Eldin Jakupović to shots from Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, Manchester United made their second real threat to the Bosnian’s goal. Only eight minutes before the half-time whistle, Juan Mata crossed for Wayne Rooney, but the United captain’s shot was blocked by Curtis Davies.

Hull went into the break looking to endure the pressure by Manchester United and hold them to a goalless draw. Manchester United however kept exerting more and more pressure by bringing on Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 61st minute and Marcus Rashford in the 71st minute after long possession stints that resulted in off-target or wide shots.

The final quarter of an hour of the game saw Hull’s Jakupović produce some sublime saves to multiple chances from the Red Devils. Hull City manager Mike Phelan looked to bolster his back-line by bringing on Harry Maguire for Uruguayan forward Abel Hernández.

Hull’s defence couldn’t withstand the pressure when Rooney skipped past Elmohamady and sent a low cross to Marcus Rashford who poked the ball home scoring the winning goal in the dying minutes of the game. The 18-year-old gave Manchester United the three points and their third consecutive win in the league.

Hull now move into 5th position temporarily as eighth-placed Middlesbrough play West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.
