Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Salah stars against Sheffield United

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

This week the most notable performances came from Mohamed Salah, who found the back of the net in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United and Mahmoud Trezeguet, who pulled off an excellent performance as Aston Villa returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Burnley.

January 1

Mahmoud Trezeguet & Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)

Premier League – Trezeguet started and Ahmed Elmohamady remained on the bench as Aston Villa defeated Burnley 2-1 in the 21st league fixture. The Egyptian winger pulled off an excellent performance and contributed to Villa’s second goal. The win takes the Villans to the 17th spot with 21 points ahead of their encounter against Fulham in the FA Cup on Jan.4.

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

Championship – Morsy featured in Wigan’s hard-fought 3-2 victory against Birmingham City in the 26th fixture to move to the 22nd spot with 23 points, just one point away from escaping the relegation zone. The Latics next clash will be against Leicester City in the FA Cup on the fourth of January.

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)

Championship – The Egyptian defender was an unused substitute as West Brom fell to another disappointing draw against Leeds United in the 26th fixture. Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for the Baggies just two minutes into the game. However, he turned from hero to Villain when he equalised for Leeds through an own goal. Following the draw, West Brom sit second with 52 points before facing Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Jan.5.

January 2

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (England)

Premier League – Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 20 league games as they defeated Sheffield United 2-0, with Salah breaking the deadlock just four minutes into the game and Sadio Mane scoring the second in the 64th minute After the win, the Reds sit on top of the league table with 58 points before facing Everton in the FA Cup on the 5th of January.

January 4

Mahmoud Trezeguet & Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)

FA Cup – Elmohamady and Trezeguet both featured as Villa were knocked out from the FA Cup after suffering an unexpected 2-1 defeat against Fulham. The Villans next encounter will be against Leicester City in the EFL Cup on Jan.8.

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

FA Cup – Morsy was shown a yellow card as his side fell to a 2-0 loss against Leicester City to exit the FA Cup. Tom Pearce made it 1-0 with an own goal, before Harvey Barnes extended the Foxes’ lead in the 40th minute. The Latics’ are set to face Bristol City in the Championship on the 11th of January.

January 5

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)

FA Cup – Hegazi secured acleansheet as West Brom secured qualification to the Cup’s next round with a difficult 1-0 win against Charlton Athletic, thanks to Kenneth Zohore’s first half goal. The Baggies’ will face Charlton once again, but this time in the Championship on the 11th of January.

Amr Warda – AE Larisa (Greece)

Super League – Warda played the full 90 minutes in Larisa’s 2-1 defeat against Xanthi in the 17th league fixture. Radomir Milosavlijevic opened the scoring for Larisa, however, Jordan Faucher netted a brace for the hosts to turn things around. Larisa’s next clash will be against Aris Thessaloniki on the 11th of January.

FA Cup – Salah was rested as Liverpool snatched an impressive 1-0 win against Everton in the FA Cup, with youngster Curtis Jones’ beautiful strike being the difference. The Reds will are set to face Tottenham in the next league fixture on Jan.11.
