Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Salah shines in Liverpool’s domestic and European victories

KingFut rounds up the Pharaohs Abroad action this week to keep you up to date with Egyptian players overseas.

Following the midweek fixtures which saw Mohamed Salah score a wonderful goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against RB Salzburg and Mohamed Elneny came on as a second half substitute in Besiktas’ disappointing 4-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the UEFA competitions, our Pharaohs abroad featured in a number of critical clashes with their clubs over the weekend.

This week the most notable performances came from Salah , who netted a brace against Watford as Liverpool maintained their great run of form to top the Premier League table and Sam Morsy delivered a great performance as Wigan snatched a 1-1 draw against Ahmed Hegazi’s West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

December 11

Sam Morsy – Wigan, Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)

Championship – Morsy contributed in side’s only goal, meanwhile, Hegazi remained on the bench as Wigan held West Brom to 1-1 draw. After dropping two important points, the Baggies remain on top of the league table with 46 points, just two points away from Leeds United. Meanwhile, the Latics remain in the relegation zone as they occupy the 23rd spot with 17 points.

December 14

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (England)

Premier League – The Egyptian King found the net twice in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory against Watford in the 17th league fixture. Liverpool extended their unbeaten run as they widened the gap with second place Leicester City to 10 points before facing Elmohamady and Trezeguet’s Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.

Ahmed Hegazi – West Bromwich Albion (England)

Championship – Hegazi remained on the bench as West Brom registered an impressive 3-2 away victory against Birmigham City in the 22nd league fixture. Charlie Austin’s second half brace secured the full points for the Baggies as they top the league table with 49 points ahead of their clash against Brentford on the 21st of December.

Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)

Championship – The Egyptian midfielder played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town. Josh Windass opened the scoring for the Latics in the 43rd minute, before Karlan Grant leveled things up in the 70th minute. Morsy’s side sit 23rd with 18 points and will face Blackburn Rovers on Dec.23.

Mahmoud Trezeguet & Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)

Premier League – Ahmed Elmohamady remained on the bench, meanwhile, Mahmoud Trezeguet came on in the 80th minute as the Villans suffered another loss when they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield United. Following the loss, Villa occupy the 17th spot with 15 points ahead of the clash against Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

December 15

Amr Warda – AE Larisa (Greece)

Super League – Warda played the full match as Larisa fell to a 2-1 defeat against his former side Atromitos in the 14th fixture of the league. After the loss, Larisa sit sixth with 19 points ahead of their clash against league leaders Olympiacos on Dec.18.

Mohamed Elneny – Besiktas (Turkey)

Super Lig – The Arsenal loanee featured as his side suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat against Yeni Malatyaspor. Elneny was replaced by Guven Yalcin in the 84th minute. Less than one minute later, Thievy Bifouma broke the deadlock for the visitors, followed by the second goal in the dying moments of the game. Following the loss, the Black Eagles sit third with 27 points before facing 24 Erzincanspor in the Turkish Cup.

Ahmed Hassan ‘Kouka’ – Sporting Braga (Portugal)

Primeira Liga – Braga suffered a second consecutive 1-0 league defeat in Kouka’s absence, thanks to Douglas’ first half goal that snatched the game points for Pacos de Ferreira. The loss sinks Braga to the eighth spot with 18 points and will face Giants Benfica on Dec.18. in the Portuguese Cup.
