FIFA decided to reduce the duration of the ban imposed on Zambian legend Kalusha Bwalya after reviewing his appeal.

Kalusha Bwalya was banned from all football-related activity for two years after an investigation found him guilty of receiving a gift from Qatari official Mohammed Bin Hammam.

Bwalya was banned for two years from all football-related activities whether administrative, sports or any other at both national and international level, in addition to a 100,000 USD fine.

Bin Hammam was banned from football for life by FIFA in 2011 as he was part of a voting scandal in his bid to challenge Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency.

FIFA said that its appeal panel decided to reduce the ban to the time he had already served and his fine was also reduced to 10,090 USD.

“The FIFA Appeal Committee decided to reduce the duration of the ban from taking part in any football-related activity imposed on Mr. Bwalya to the period already served at the time of the notification of the present decision,” the football governing body said in a statement.

“As a consequence, the ban imposed on Mr. Bwalya ended upon notification of the decision of the FIFA Appeal Committee.”
