Egypt’s legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary discussed a new phase of his career after joining Egyptian Premier League outfit Nogoom FC.

El-Hadary, who recently terminated his contract with Ismaily after just six months with the club, decided to join Nogoom FC on a free transfer.

Nogoom FC will become Essam El-Hadary’s 10th club in his long and illustrious career, which saw him making his professional debut for Domyat Club in 1993.

“Nogoom FC are a new and an ambitious club, it is a club that I can relate to. I had a number of offers from Egyptian clubs and one form a Saudi Arabian club but I preferred to join Nogoom,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.

“I terminated my contract with Ismaily because of some big issues I had with the club. All Egyptian clubs suffer from different issues, but at Ismaily, these problems are bigger,” he added.

When asked if he would like to end his football career at Al Ahly, where he spent most of his career, El-Hadary said: “My return to Al Ahly is a decision that can be made by the club and its board only.”

The 46-year-old goalie announced his international retirement in August last year after 159 international caps with the Pharaohs. He became the oldest player to ever participate in the World Cup when he started for Egypt in their final group stage encounter against Saudi Arabia in Russia 2018.

He recently hinted his intentions to return to the national team squad during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
