Losing two continental titles in two years made me hate football, Zizo says

Zamalek forward Ahmed Sayed Zizo recalled losing two finals in the span of months, stating that it made him ‘hate’ football.

In 2020, Zizo was a part of the Zamalek squad that lost the CAF Champions League final to arch-rivals Al Ahly in a game described by many as the final of the century.

During the game, Zizo was close to snatching a valuable title for his team, but his screamer hit the woodwork, resulting in a heartbreaking defeat.

Just over a year later, the same player was a part of the Egypt squad that lost the Africa Cup of Nations final to Senegal.

Throughout the tournament, Zizo had successfully scored for Egypt in three different penalty shoot-outs, against Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Senegal.

Days after the AFCON finale, the international winger couldn’t hide his disappointment, claiming that these two finals were just shocking to him.

“Losing two continental finals in two years is very difficult, it is just shocking. It made me hate football, but I had to move on, life has to go on,” Zizo told MBC Masr.

“If I scored against Al Ahly things would have been different, but my shot missed the target and hit the post.

“Every time I watch the game I blame my luck, I just wish I could have scored.”
