CAF Champions League draw: Al Ahly, Misr El-Maqassa handed easy draws

Egypt’s Al Ahly and Misr El-Maqassa have found out their first opponents in the 2018 CAF Champions League.

The draw took place today, December 13 at the CAF headquarters, with all Al Ahly entering the competition at the round of 32.

Al Ahly have qualified for the competition as the Egyptian Premier League champions, while El-Maqassa were the runners-up after a memorable league campaign.

The Red Devils will be up against the winner between Gabonese side CF Mounana and Burkina Faso’s Rail Club du Kadiogo in the round of 32.

Cairo giants Al Ahly are considered the most successful club in the competition’s history, having won the tournament eight times.

Misr El-Maqassa, who are set to take place in their first ever Champions League campaign, have been drawn against Senegal’s Génération Foot in the preliminary round.

If El-Maqassa manged to overcome the Senegalese side, they will face either Guinea’s Horoya or AS FAN of Niger in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, Amr Gamal’s Bidvest Wits will be up against Mauritius’ Pamplemousses in the preliminary round, with the winner facing the winner from Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto and FC Platinum of Zimbabwe.

Al Ahly were the runner-ups of the 2017 version after losing 2-1 on aggregate to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and they will look forward to add their ninth CAF Champions League title to their trophy cabinet.
