Al Masry announced that the club has received a signed letter from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) with a $5,000 fine.
The club received an official note from the Egyptian Football Federation informing them of CAF’s decision to impose a five thousand dollar fine on the club following their fans’ actions after their match against USM Alger in the first leg of the quarter-final CAF Confederations Cup.
The referee’s post-match report indicated that the crowd threw bottles on the pitch after the final whistle. The Egyptian club won the first and second leg of the quarter-final against USM Alger 1-0, proceeding to the semi-finals where they lost 4-0 against AS Vita Club.
Al Masry’s players caused damage after the match against AS Vita as well, leaving the dressing room wrecked following their loss. AS Vita fans were seen throwing stones at Al Masry’s bench, one which left a nasty cut on former manager Hossam Hassan’s forehead. After the match, Al Masry staff claimed the referee asked for a bribe to let them beat the Congolese outfits.
Both clubs are expected to be fined by CAF once more.
