South Africa president Cyril Ramaphos has hailed Pitso Mosimane for taking on Al Ahly’s head coach job following the departure of Rene Weiler.
Mosimane had stepped down from his role as Mamelodi Sundowns manager, bringing his eight-year tenure to an end.
The 56-year-old then signed a two-year contract with Al Ahly to become the first-ever South African manager to be in charge of the Cairo giants.
Following his appointment, President Cyril Ramaphos commended the appointment of Pitso Mosimane as a validation of African unity and capability.
“Pitso Mosimane will be missed as a force in South African football but his appointment by our continent’s flagship club strengthens the bonds of friendship between our two countries,” President Cyril Ramaphos said.
“It is also a recognition of the talent and capability that resides within our own continent.
“I wish Pitso and his team well as they fly our flag and the flag of continental football with a club in whose success all Africans take pride.” he continued.
Mosimane’s first game in charge of Al Ahly will be on Sunday, October 4th when the league champions host fourth-placed Arab Contractors.
