England national team goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson has praised Egypt international goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy for his performances in the last World Cup.

While the 2018 FIFA World Cup did not pan out as well as many Egypt fans would have hoped, one of the players who strongly enhanced their reputation in Russia was Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy.

El-Shennawy’s performance against Uruguay in the opening game kept Egypt in it right until the end, and it caught the eye of England goalkeeper coach Martyn Margetson.

Margetson said: “El-Shennawy drew my attention to the level he presented against Uruguay, and I think that his age is small for a goalkeeper, and he has a very promising future.”

The 48-year-old also heaped on the praise for Mohamed Salah, adding: “I also love talking about Mohamed Salah, his exceptional performance and his constant desire to develop himself and improve his level.

“He does not play for himself, but for the sake of the team, which is an important and essential part of what Liverpool reached, which is ideal for young people. If I am his personal advisor, I will advise him to continue with Liverpool,” he concluded.
