Egypt international Mohamed Mamdouh Hashem has joined French league leaders Montpellier from Pays d’Aix.

The 28-year-old completed his medical with the French Handball giants and will represent them until the end of the season.

Hashem will replace Ludovic Fabregas, the French national team and Montpellier player who will be sidelined for at least three months after being diagnosed with thrombosis.

Montpellier is the only French team to win the men’s EHF Champions League title and have been previously crowned as French Champions in 14 occasions. They currently top the league table on 23 points and will next face PSG.

The former Zamalek player made 189 appearances for Egypt’s national team scoring 522 goals and had an important role with Egypt in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
