Bidvest Wits manager Gavin Hunt has spoken about Amr Gamal’s recent performances and not following his orders saying that ‘he needs to work more’.
Despite Gamal’s strike against Baroka FC, which secured TKO semi-final qualification for Bidvest Wits, Hunt believes that Al Ahly loanee would be much more clinical if he understood the instructions.
“He doesn’t understand me. I think if he stayed in the box a little bit more he’d be much better. But he moves a little too much. He’s even got me talking Arabic,” Hunt said in his post-match interview.
It is somehow noticeable that Hunt and Gamal go together in discussions during the matches but they seem don’t understand each other languages and there’s a problem in communication between them.
“He’s got a totally different mentality to what he’s used to. There are one man and a dog watching him here when he’s used to playing in front of 60,000 every week at Al Ahly. He is in the Egyptian World Cup squad,’’ he added.

The 63-year old also pointed to the difference in quality between the players Amr Gamal used to play with at the Egyptian national team and at Bidvest Wits, saying: “The players around him are (Mohamed) Salah and these other guys. It’s a bit of a shock to the system coming here.
“But here you’ve got to work, my friend. I don’t have Salah and these other ones in midfield that are going to give you the ball on a plate like that. You’ve got to work a little bit harder here,” Hunt added
In spite of scoring five goals in 11 games for the Clever Boys, Hunt thinks that the Egyptian striker needs to work more on his finishing, “He’s missed a lot of chances, like the one he missed against Baroka in our league game. My daughter could have scored that. There was another one against Cape Town City in the semifinal of the MTN8.
“But we need these type of players. They bring a great mentality. At Al Ahly, their mentality is good. I think our players can learn a lot from them. Maybe they can learn a lot from our movements, but he gives a lot to the team,” Hunt concluded.
It’s worth noting that Amr Gamal is part of Hector Cuper’s squad to face Ghana in the last round of the World Cup qualification, which is already secured for the Pharaohs.
