FEATURE: Egyptian defenders that defied their position and scored hat-tricks

Zamalek defender Mahmoud Alaa managed to join the Egyptian league’s best ever goal scoring defenders after scoring his first hat-trick of his career which was also this season’s first. The latter scored two goals from two corner kicks with two brilliant headers, and his third goal came after he dribbled past Hassan Muanda, and took a powerful shot that got deflected from the defender and into the Bassam’s net.

Mahmoud Alaa is now the fifth defender in the history of Egyptian football to score three goals in a single game, Alaa has joined an impressive set of defenders who have previously done the same thing before throughout the years:

Wael El-Qabbani:

The Former Zamalek defender have scored his hat-trick against Alexandria’s Al Ittihad, in the 2003/2004 season when Zamalek defeated Al Ittihad with four goals against two goals in the 25th round which Al Qubbani managed to score three goals by himself, in addition to the goal scored by Tarek Al Sayed.

Emad El-Nahhas:

The former Al-Ahly and Ismaily defender is the second player to ever score a hat-trick in the league. El-Nahhas scored his hat-trick in his time with Al Ahly against Ittihad of Alexandria in the 2005/06 Premier League season.

Mohsen Hindawy:

The Ghazl El Mahalla fullback scored his hat-trick in the 2008/2009 season, in a thrilling game against Arab Contractors which finished by a score-line of 3-2, All of Hindawi’s goals in this game came directly from set-pieces.

Mahmoud Fathallah:

Mahmoud Fathallah is regarded as one of Egypt’s best goal scoring defenders, and had outstanding abilities in heading the ball and scoring from set-pieces, but his hat-trick with Entag El Harby against Haras El Hodood could be very much his most memorable goal scoring night. All three goals came from set-pieces with 2 penalties converted and a direct free-kick that found it’s way into the back of the net. scored his three goals in one game with the military production at the border guards.

Hamza El-Gamal:

The former Ismaily defender made history when he beacame the first defender to score a hat-trick in Egyptian football, the latter scored his hat-trick in the 1994/1995 season against Ittihad of Alexandria in the quarter finals of Egypt Cup and all of his goals were from open play. The match ended with a score of 4-2 to the Yellow dragons as they moved on to the semi-finals.
