Official: Shikabala joins Greek side Apollon Smyrni

Shikabala
Mahmoud Abdel-Razik Shikabala has joined Greek side Apollon Smyrni F.C. from Zamalek on a one-year loan deal, the White Castle announced on Monday.

Shikabala spent last season on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al Raed, before joining the Pharaohs’ squad for the 2018 World Cup. Following his return, he was placed on the Zamalek’s reserves list for the 2018/19 season.

The former Ismaily player has been linked with a move to Greece over the past week, before Zamalek announced on Monday reaching an agreement with Apollon Smyrni over the player’s transfer. They have also revealed that the 32-year-old attacking midfielder will extend his contract at the White Castle.

Shikabala becomes the third Egyptian in the Superleague Greece this season as his Zamalek teammate Bassem Morsi joined Greek side Larissa on a one-year deal, while Egypt international Amr Warda plays for Greek giants PAOK.

This marks Shikabala’s second stint in Greece as he played for PAOK during the 2005/06 season. Apollon finished 14th on the league table last season, just above the relegation zone, after collecting 29 points from 30 games. They’ll kick off their 2018/19 campaign against Shikabala’s Larissa on August 25.
