Al Ahly linked with Sundowns star Gaston Sirino two years after failed move

Sundowns star Gaston Sirino linked with Al Ahly two years after failed move

Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino has been linked with a move to Al Ahly once again as he is set to depart his club this summer.

Sirino was heavily linked with a transfer to Al Ahly during Pitso Mosimane’s time in Cairo and his move seemed closer than ever.

However, just before the start of 2021, Mamelodi Sundowns announced that talks with Al Ahly fell through, which led to a damaged relationship between both clubs.

Al Ahly has gone through a successful period since then, but it seems like they could reignite interest in the Uruguayan winger as he is set to leave Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to The South African, Sirino has handed in a transfer request and Al Ahly might make another attempt at signing the player at 32.

Despite the report, KingFut understands the move seems implausible as Al Ahly are only keen on signing a new striker, having already offloaded Ahmed Kendouci to free up a spot in the foreign quota.

Al Ahly have also signed Moroccan winger Reda Slim this summer, making a signing for an additional winger not likely.

Gaston Sirino has been playing for Sundowns since 2018, arriving from Bolivar, and since then made a total of 178 appearances in which he scored 36 goals and provided 42 assists.
