Mostafa Mohamed scores brace in Nantes draw with AS Monaco

Egypt international scored a brace in Nantes’ thrilling 3-3 draw with Monaco in matchday three of Ligue 1 on Friday.

Despite Mohamed having a good start to the season with one goal in two games, Nantes struggled as they collected zero points from their opening two games.

The team had lost to Toulouse 2-1 at home, before suffering another 2-0 defeat to LOSC Lille to fall into the relegation zone.

Nantes boss Pierre Aristouy knew they had to target nothing but the three points when they host high-flying Monaco, who had opened their campaign with two successive wins.

Indeed, Nantes managed to take the lead after just five minutes when Moses Simon was brought down inside the penalty area by Denis Zakaria for Mostafa Mohamed to score from the spot.

Ten minutes later, Nantes doubled their lead through their defender Jean-Charles Castelletto, who turned Kader Bamba’s corner into the back of the net with a powerful header.

The two-goal lead didn’t last long as Monaco managed to grab one back through Takumi Minamino in the 27th minute for the first half to end in a 2-1 lead to Nantes.

Two minutes into the second half, Mohamed restored FC Nantes’ two-goal lead as he tapped in Quentin Merlin’s low cross to make it 3-1.

Unfortunately for Mohamed, his side couldn’t hold onto their lead and let in two goals, the first through Wissam Ben Yedder in the 58th minute, before Myron Boadu scored a late equaliser in the 85th minute.

Nantes now sit 15th on the league table with just one point from three games and their next game will see them face Marseille at home on September 1.
