Egyptian National Team manager Hector Cuper stated he would “not take any forward steps” to renewing his contract if he is not wanted.

Speaking before Egypt’s third World Cup match against Saudi Arabia, Cuper stated that “he will not take any forward steps in renewing his contract if 90% of Egyptian fans and officials disagree with my approach.”

He continued, “I will not talk about renewing my contract. It’s going to be over for me, even if I’ve achieved all the goals I want, it’s different for me.”

When asked about disappointment looming over Egypt’s World Cup campaign, he answered, “There was no disappointment in the World Cup. The results were not at the levels of our ambitions, but I thank the players very much.”

The Argentine added, “Most of the players have not reached this level, for the first time in their lives they are in a major tournament and as a coach, this is my first international experience at the World Cup.” Lastly, he said, “You have a distinct group of players and you always have to support them.”

Egypt play Saudi Arabia on Monday in their final match at the World Cup, after losing 1-0 to Uruguay and 3-1 to Russia. Cuper’s contract expires at the end of the World Cup.
