Salah scores twice as Liverpool thrash Crvena Zvezda, top Champions League group

Liverpool have prevailed 4-0 against Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda as Egypt star Mohamed Salah netted a brace to put the Reds in the first spot in their UEFA Champions League group.

In the first half, Liverpool were extremely dominant and controlled the game. In the 20th minute, Roberto Firmino scored with a slightly deflected finish to make it 1-0 after a great pass from Andy Robertson to set him up inside the box.

Just before the half time whistle Salah scored a great right footed strike after a smart assist from Shaqiri. This was Salah’s second right footed goal in two consecutive matches, after his winner against Huddersfield in the weekend.

In the second half, Salah converted a penalty to make it 3-0 as Mane was brought down in the penalty are by Stojkovic. Liverpool took full control of the game as they cruised to their win easily in Anfield.

In the 73rd minute Daniel Sturridge was brought in to replace the 26-year-old forward who received a big ovation from the Liverpool fans. Three minutes later Liverpool won a penalty but Senegal captain Sadio Mane failed to convert it and missed the rebound too.

Four minutes later Mane made up for his error and scored after being played in by Sturridge to cap off the great match by Liverpool.

Liverpool are now on the top of Group C with six points after three rounds ahead of both Napoli and PSG, who played out a 2-2 draw in Paris on Wednesday. Liverpool’s upcoming match will be on Saturday against Cardiff City in the Premier League.
