Zamalek were able to score a 3-1 win against Misr El-Maqassa thanks to a Bassem Morsi goal and a Kahraba brace, pulling to five points behind league leaders, Al Ahly.

Zamalek started off as the brighter side, and they got their deserved lead after 20 minutes. Kahraba capitalized on a fatal error by the Maqassa defenders to slot his shot past Mahmoud Hamdy. After an otherwise uneventful first half, the two teams went into the dressing rooms with Zamalek holding a 1-0 lead.

The second half was much more eventful. Bassem Morsi scored Zamalek’s second goal in the 50th after a beautiful chip over the goalkeeper.
The shameful actions started after Maqassa scored in the 56th through El-Sayed Hamdy. The referee adjudged Hamdy’s shot to have crossed Gennesh’s line, but replays proved it did not actually cross. This resulted in a furious reaction by Zamalek players and fans, and the game was stopped for 8 minutes.

Play did finally resume, and in the 74th minute Kahraba was able to end the game with a third goal. Almost immediately after Kahraba’s goal, Zamalek striker Bassem Morsi was sent off.
The referee added 14 minutes for stoppage time, which proved uneventful besides the sending off of Maqassa’s Ahmed Fawzi.
The game puts Zamalek temporarily 5 points behind Al Ahly, who hold a game in hand over their Cairo rivals.
