KingFut’s ‘Hidden Pharaohs’ series introduces our readers to some of the many players of Egyptian origins who may seem unknown to the average fan. In its fourth installment, Marwan Ibrahim sheds some light on Mervue United’s Irish-Egyptian striker Yousef Mahdy.

Yousef Mahdy – commonly known as ‘Yoyo’ – is a young talented semi-pro Irish-Egyptian striker that plays for Mervue United AFC’s U-19 team in Ireland. Born January, 20th 1998 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to Egyptian parents, ‘Yoyo’ moved to Ireland at the age of two and started his football career with Mungret Regional FC in 2012/13 season scoring 50 goals, and another 43 in his second season with the team. This past summer, Yoyo earned himself a move to Mervue United’s U-19 team, where he’s now a starter, and has bagged 5 goals under his belt in five games thus far.
KingFut.com‘s Marwan Ibrahim caught up with the Irish-Egyptian striker, and when asked which footballer he aspires to be like, Yousef responded:
“I find Luis Suárez one of the best strikers in the world, if not the best, and it would be a dream come true if I reached the same level as him.”
Despite growing up in Dublin, Mahdy still keeps an eye on the Egyptian Premier League, telling King Fut he follows “mostly big games.”
“I’m a big fan of Al Ahly, but also a Manchester United fan in heart.”
International career:
Mahdy played for the Ireland U-15 national team only once on April 18th, 2013 against Finland. He’s now a part of Ireland’s U-17 national team, featuring 3 times over this past summer. Thanks to Waseem Ahmed, Yousef was invited to train with the Egypt 1998 squad for 2 days in June 2014, where he impressed the managers and was invited to train again, but unfortunately was unavailable to do so.
