Official: Elmohamady joins the Tigers on loan

Egypt international Ahmed Elmohamady signs for Hull City on a season-long loan from Sunderland.

Egyptian-owned Npower Championship side Hull City have completed the signing of Sunderland right wing-back Ahmed Elmohamady on a one-year loan deal, as revealed earlier today on his official Facebook page.

Sunderland and Hull City have both confirmed the deal this afternoon.

However, Sunderland have included a clause in the deal which means Ahmed could be recalled in January if needed, i.e. if Sunderland are hit with an injury crisis.

The Egyptian international reunites with former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce – who brought Elmo to the Stadium of Light, and is now in charge at the KC Stadium.

Elmohamady, 24, joined Sunderland from ENPPI in August 2010, initially on loan for £500,000 with an option to a 3-year extension. This option was taken up the following summer for £2 million, the highest transfer fee in history for a player from the Egyptian Premier League.

The Egypt star recently spoke with O’Neill to find out whether he is part of the manager’s plans, and despite featuring against Arsenal as substitute on the opening day of the season, the recent signing of Adam Johnson is a clear indication that Elmo wouldn’t be given regular football at Sunderland this season.

Elmohamady has not started a game since O’Neill took charge of the Black Cats in December. However, Elmo never asked to leave Sunderland, despite being desperate for regular football.

The Basyoun-born midfielder has made 60 appearances for Sunderland, scoring once against West Brom last season.
