Wadi Degla discover opponents in inaugural CAF Women's CL

Wadi Degla women’s football team have discovered their opponents in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League set to be held in Cairo next November.

The format of the tournament will see champions of each of the six CAF Zones play for a spot in the competition and will be joined by the hosts an extra team from the zone of the reigning Africa Women Cup of Nations champions.

The tournament then will be played in two groups of four teams, with the top two teams reaching the semi-finals, which will be played in a one-leg format.

As hosts, Egyptian champions Wadi Degla have qualified directly for the competition, where they were drawn in group A alongside Mali’s AS Mande, Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea, and Ghana champions Hasaacas Ladies.

Speaking of the draw Wadi Degla striker Marihan Yehia told BBC Africa: “Hasaacas are very good and are one of the clubs expected to go to the next stage.

“Group B is more difficult than our group, which is a chance for us to go beyond the group stage,” she added.

Meanwhile, Group B has included South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Rivers Angels of Nigeria, Kenya’s Vihiga Queens, and Morocco’s AS FAR as the second Arab and North Africa representative.

The opening matches will take place on November 5, while the final be held on November 19.
