Egypt's Alexander Jakobsen completes move to Eredivisie side

Ex-Egypt international Alexander Jakobsen has completed a surprising move to Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old played for Kazakh outfit Zhenis Astana between last April to August, making just seven appearances after joining them from Georgian club Dinamo Batumi.

In Georgia, Jakobsen had a longer stay with Dinamo Batumi in which he scored four goals in 24 appearances to help them win the 2022/24 Georgian league title.

Born in Hvidovre, Denmark, Alexander Jakobsen, also known as Amir Adel, had several spells in Scandinavia, with Norweign club Bodø/Glimt being the most notable name.

He also played for two seasons in Egypt with Wadi Degla and Smouha and was so close to joining Zamalek, before the Whites withdrew from the deal despite the player signing the contract.

Jakobsen will now have a new adventure in the Netherlands with RKC Waalwijk, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal until the end of the upcoming season.

It won’t be the player’s first spell in the Netherlands, having played for the youth teams of PSV between 2011 to 2014, making six appearances in the second division with the U21 side.

Amir also has one cap with Egypt, featuring under ex-manager Héctor Cúper, in a 3-0 friendly win over Togo in 2017, but failed to make the team again.

RKC Waalwijk finished 15th in the Eredivisie last season barely escaping relegation by goal difference and will be hoping that Adel and their other ten new signings help them steer away from the drop.
