Tunisia striker Taha Khenissi ruled out of reminder of AFCON

Tunisia have confirmed that striker Taha Yassine Khenissi will miss the remainder of the 2023 AFCON after suffering a significant injury against Namibia.

The Eagles of Carthage suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Namibia in their opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday.

Taha Khenissi started the game but was forced off with a knee injury after just 15 minutes and was replaced by Haythem Jouini.

The Tunisian FA confirmed that the Kuwait SC striker will miss the remainder of the tournament and will probably depart the Ivory Coast in the upcoming few days.

The statement read: “Following the injury he suffered in the Namibia match, Taha Yassine Khenissi underwent an MRI examination on Wednesday, which confirmed his injury to the internal ligament of the knee.

“This injury will prevent him from continuing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.”
