Kadri: We could’ve scored more

Tunisia coach Jalel Kadri praised his team’s performance following the 3-1 win over Egypt on Tuesday, saying that the Carthage Eagles could’ve widened the scoreline.

Goals from Aissa Laidouni, Hamza Rafia, and an own goal from Hamdy Fathi secured the Tunisians’ fourth win in six games, and Kadri was quick to heap praise on his players for their tactical astuteness.

“This wasn’t a friendly game,” he told ON Time Sports 1 following the game. “We know how good Egypt are and they won eight games on the trot.

“It was an important game. There are a few principles we’ve been working on, and we’ve proven that we could play well in big games and against good opponents. We studied Egypt very well, and our game plan succeeded.”

Kadri continued his words by saying that it wasn’t easy to contain Egypt, and went deeper into his side’s game plan.

“It wasn’t easy containing the Egyptian attack, especially with Mohamed Salah and then Zizo in the middle,” he started. “We wanted to be really quick in attacking transition, and we were good in possession as well.

“Even the goal we conceded was initially from a set-piece and then a loose second ball, which we didn’t deal with well.

“In the second half, Egypt didn’t pose any danger, and with more focus we could’ve scored more goals. It’s important that we continue to play that way.”
