Vitoria ‘proud of players’ despite loss against Tunisia

In the press conference following Egypt’s 3-1 defeat against Tunisia, Egypt head coach Rui Vitoria stated that he is proud of the team’s performance, despite the ‘difficult circumstances’.

The Egyptian national team were without Al Ahly players in the line-up, who were excused from the national team camp to join the Red Devils before their CAF Super Cup match-up against USM Alger on Friday.

“We could’ve scored the equalizer before the end of the first half,” said Vitoria. “In the second
half as well, we were dealt a third goal in injury time despite being more dangerous

“I don’t like losing, but I’m proud of the players who played well despite the difficult
circumstances.

“There were players who were playing their first game with the national team, and our back-line
hadn’t played with each other a lot previously.”

It is worth mentioning that the loss on Tuesday was Vitoria’s first as Egypt head coach since he
took over form Ehab Galal in July 2022.
