Egypt international Bilal Mazhar has made his debut for Portuguese outfit Estrela da Amadora in a 1-0 defeat to Santa Clara.
The 20-year-old striker joined Estrela on the transfer deadline day on a free transfer after his contract with Greek giants Panathinaikos came to an end.
Mazhar was an unused substitute in their 2-2 against Baovista last week, before coming on in the last 15 minutes against CD Santa Clara on Saturday.
Manager Filipe Martins brought in Mazhar just two minutes after Vinícius Lopes opened the scoring for Santa Clara in the 81st minute; however, unfortunately for the Egyptian, it was too late to make any impact.
With his late cameo, Bilal Mazhar becomes the 13th Egyptian to play in Liga Portugal after Kouka, Ali Ghazal, Abdelsattar Sabry, Zizo, Saleh Gomaa, Marwan Mohsen, Mohamed Ibrahim, Kahraba, Mahmoud Ezzat, Ali Fathi, Shikabala, and Hossam Hassan.
The defeat kept Nani’s side Estrela in the relegation zone with just two points from their opening six games, two points away from safety.
They will be next in action on Saturday as they host Moreirense, hoping to pick up their first win of the season.
On the same day, Ahmed Hassan Kouka made his second appearance of the season as Rio Ave drew 2-2 with Estoril Praia at Estádio dos Arcos.
The 31-year-old striker came on in the 72nd minute after all four goals were scored to make his 131st appearance in the Portuguese top division.
Rio Ave is now currently tenth in the league with seven points and will face Kouka’s former side Sporting Braga on Sunday away from home.
