Essam El-Hadary included in Rogério Micale’s Egypt U-23 backroom staff

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have announced the backroom staff for newly-appointed U-23 national team head coach Rogério Micale.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have been on the lookout for a manager to take on the vacant coaching role with the U-23 team.

Juan Carlos Garrido, Patrice Beaumelle, and Yannick Ferrera were all linked with the role, but negotiations broke down with the first two, while the latter’s move never materialised.

Instead, the EFA have decided to go for Brazilian manager Rogério Micale, who had led Brazil to their first-ever gold medal after defeating Germany on penalties at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Micale is now set to be joined by Wael Reyad as his assistant, Mahmoud Harb as team director, and legendary shot-stopper Essam El-Hadary as the goalkeeping coach.

El-Hadary has been part of the Egyptian national team set up under Carlos Queiroz during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 49-year-old then continued his role with Ehab Galal before he was sacked after just three games in charge of the Pharaohs.
