Aliou Badji leaves Al Ahly to join French outfit Amiens on permanent deal

Senegalese forward Aliou Badji has officially joined Ligue 2 side Amiens SC on a permanent deal, Al Ahly announced on Saturday.

Badji joined Al Ahly from Austria’s Rapid Vienna in January of 2020 and had performed well under former head coach Rene Weiler.

However, with the arrival of South African manager Pitso Mosimane, Badji fell down the pecking order to Marwan Mohsen, Mohamed Sherif, and Walter Bwalya.

After finding the back of the net on just three occasions in 23 appearances, Badji’s goal return was not convincing for the board who decided to send the forward on loan to Turkish Super Lig outfit MKE Ankaragücü.

Upon his return from Turkey, Badji then joined French side Amiens on a one-year loan deal last summer with the club having the option to make the deal permanent for a fee of $1.8 million.

After impressing in his debut season in Ligue 2 with 13 goals and three assists in 26 games, Amiens have triggered the option to sign Badji on a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old is now set to help Amiens in their quest for Ligue 1 promotion, as they finished last season in a disappointing 14th place.

“Amiens Sporting Club have completed the transfer of Aliou Badji after activating the option to buy in the Senegalese striker’s contract on Saturday,” Al Ahly said in a statement.

“Amir Tawfik, head of Al Ahly’s transfers department, announced that Badji will join Amiens on a permanent basis after spending a successful one-year loan with the French side.”
