Badji on reasons behind joining Al Ahly, future career goals

Al Ahly loanee Aliou Badji revealed the reasons behind joining Al Ahly while talking about his future career goals.

Badji joined Al Ahly during the tenure of former head coach Rene Weiler. However, he didn’t impress his successor, Pitso Mosimane, who preferred the likes of Marwan Mohsen, Mohamed Sherif, and Walter Bwalya over him.

Badji was, therefore, sent on a loan in January 2021 to then-Turkish Super Lig outfit MKE Ankaragücü, where he also had a poor run.

Upon his return to Cairo, the 24-year-old was immediately sent on another loan, this time to Ligue 2’s Amiens SC.

Speaking to French news outlet ONZE MONDIAL, Badji addressed his relationship with Al Ahly fans while touching on his future with the club.

“Al Ahly is a great team, many players shone in European clubs after representing Al Ahly,” Badji said.

“Al Ahly are always winning trophies. In just one season, I won three titles with the team.

“I didn’t hesitate when I received the offer, I immediately accepted. It’s a big club with a lot of international players.

“Al Ahly fans love me, I fought for the team during the time I spent in Egypt.

“Cairo streets were annoying and amazing at the same time, people always wanted to take pictures. The fans love Al Ahly.

“I want to win more titles with Al ahly, and my ultimate goal is to win the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal or even the UEFA Champions League, why not?”
