Zamalek skipper Shikabala signs new contract

Zamalek skipper Mahmoud Shikabala has agreed to extend his contract at Mit Okba until the summer of 2026.

The new contract will see the 37-year-old earn the highest wage of his career; however, both parties didn’t disclose the amount.

Reacting to the news, Shikabala said: “To the esteemed Zamalek club management and the great supporters, continuing a journey of over thirty years that began in my childhood in this great entity.

“I am honored to renew my commitment to my first and final home, Zamalek, the largest sports fortress in Egypt and the Arab world, with which I am not bound by any written contracts, but the contract and covenant between us is an eternal bond between a son raised and belonging to this great institution and an entity I have cherished since childhood.

“I extend my gratitude to the Zamalek fans who have supported me since the beginning of my career until now, and thanks are also due to the board of directors for renewing their trust in me. I wish them success in returning our beloved club to the podiums of triumph as we have pledged throughout our illustrious history. Long live Zamalek and its supporters.”

Soon-to-be 38 in a few days, Shikabala has been a regular this season for Zamalek, playing 16 times, while scoring four goals and providing three assists.

A product of the club’s youth sector, Shikabala has been representing the first team since 2003, while having several spells abroad at PAOK, Emirati side Al-Wasl, Portuguese giants Sporting, Saudi club Al-Raed, and Apollon, as well as a short spell at Ismaily in 2015.
