Egypt’s Sports Minister calls on supporters to back Hossam Hassan

Egypt

Egypt’s Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi has urged supporters to get behind Hossam Hassan after he was appointed national team head coach.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) made a surprising decision to appoint Hossam Hassan as head coach on Tuesday despite claiming they were looking for a foreign manager hours earlier.

Hossam is now set to take charge of Egypt ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers along with his brother Ibrahim, who was named technical director.

It’s worth noting that Hassan had just taken charge of Modern Future a few days ago, but the club agreed to release him from his contract to take over the national team.

“The speed of decision-making is critical in football and we wish success to the technical staff led by Hossam Hassan,” Sobhi told CBC.

“Our role as a nation is to monitor every situation related to sports and work as hard as possible to help produce the best output.

“I urge everyone to support Hossam Hassan going forward. He is one of the legends of Egyptian football.

“He played professionally outside Egypt, for Al Ahly and Zamalek, and worked for most of Egypt’s popular clubs.
