Egypt friendly with Cameroon – cancelled

The Pharaohs’ miserable international break concludes as friendly with Cameroon has been cancelled.

Following the fate of Egypt’s original two proposed friendlies during the break, Tuesday’s match in Alexandria against Cameroon has now also been called off after the Egyptian FA failed to reach a final agreement over the visitors’ excessive travel and security demands.

“Cameroon officials asked for a private plane to travel to Cairo and we couldn’t meet their demands,” assistant coach Diaa El-Sayed told Ahram Online.

“They also asked us to provide two bodyguards for each of their foreign-based players,” he added.

This news is another blow for Bob Bradley, who was already furious after the match with Benin was cancelled, as he plan to prepare the Pharaohs for next year’s World Cup qualifiers.

Bob Bradley has apologized to the squad following Cameroon’s cancellation – especially to the nine foreign-based players – who will now return home after their activity during the international break has been limited to training.

Egypt were initially supposed to meet Benin on September 7, and Nigeria on the 11th, but both have now pulled out of the games.

Egypt’s next competitive match is a World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe scheduled for March 22, 2013.
