Al Ahly Ultras plan to disrupt Sunday’s Super Cup match, and claim they are ready to die before it’s played.
Ahly’s hardcore fans, Ultras Ahlawy, have resurfaced with protests following the Egyptian FA’s decision to resume domestic football, while the perpetrators of the Port Said massacre – that took place over 7 months ago – have yet to be brought to justice.
Ultras Ahlawy stormed EFA headquarters on Wednesday after the Egyptian Premier League fixtures were released, and the group also interrupted Al Ahly’s training session the day before – holding banners criticizing their own players and the club’s board of directors for agreeing to take part in Sunday’s Super Cup showdown against ENPPI, which is scheduled to take place behind closed doors in Alexandria.
One Ahly player, however, has decided against taking part in the match on Sunday, siding with the Ultras, Mohamed Abou-Treika.
The iconic Egyptian footballer, missed Ahly’s training session on Friday after deciding not to play in the upcoming Super Cup match due to “personal reasons,” said Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz in a brief statement on the club’s official website.
Following Treika’s decision, Ultras Ahlawy took to their official Facebook page to thank the Ahly legend, while leaving a message for the rest of the team, “We appreciate the historic stance of Abou-Treika… and we have a message for other players: choose to stand by your fans, they will always be there for you.”
Al Ahly executive board member, Khaled Mortagy, also wont be attending the match, revealing on Twitter, “Not going to the Super Cup game. Disappointed with the way things are being dealt with!!!”
Ultras Ahlawy were also quick to thank “Captain Mortagy” via Facebook.

Al Ahly Ultras reaffirmed that their demands are not to be taken lightly, issueing a fierce statement last night, once again on their Facebook page (with over 550K members).

Our translation of the statement reads,”To all the members of the Ultras Ahlawy Group, from all regions in Cairo, and all citizens from the provinces of Banha, El-Monofeya, Tanta, Mansoura, Domyat, Beni Suef, Al-Fayoum, Assiut, and the rest of the group from other provinces, gather in front of Al-Fath Mosque in Ramses Square at 7 am (on Sunday) to travel to Borg El-Arab to break into the stadium which is set to host the Super (Cup) match on its field. We already said, no contest will be played before justice has prevailed. And if we have been patient for seven months, come Sunday, each and everyone of us are ready to die before this match is played. This is also an invitation to the families of the martyrs and any for anyone else who still sees that the blood of those who died has been valued cheap in our country.”
It seems if EFA don’t delay the Super Cup match, and the Premier League scheduled to begin next weekend, Egypt will face chaos, again.
