Carlos Queiroz declines offer to take over Algeria

Former Egypt manager Carlos Queiroz has repeatedly turned down an offer from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) to take over the national team.

According to Algerian media reports, discussions between the FAF and Queiroz had reached an advanced stage, but the Portuguese coach ultimately apologized for leading the national team.

Sources added that Queiroz’s lawyer expressed the Portuguese coach’s anger at what is circulating in the Algerian media regarding his Alzheimer’s disease and emphasized his well-being, stating that he would send a medical file confirming his good health.

Carlos Queiroz previously led the Egyptian national team in the 2021 AFCON edition and at that time, they secured second place after losing to Senegal on penalties.

Djamel Belmadi

The Algerian national team couldn’t pass the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations, which prompted the FAF to part ways with coach Djamel Belmadi, who is still insisting on receiving all his dues before signing the contract termination.

Djamel Belmadi took over as Algeria’s coach in August 2018, leading the Desert Warriors to win the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 for the second time in their history but failed to qualify them for the 2022 World Cup after a defeat against Cameroon in the final stage of African qualifiers.

The upcoming coach of the Algerian national team will oversee The Greens during the international football tournament hosted by Algeria in March, with the participation of South Africa, Bolivia, and Andorra.
