Zamalek’s displaced president Mortada Mansour has been sentenced to three months in prison for verbally insulting Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib.
The sentence includes EGP 20,000 as a fine, EGP 10,000 as temporary compensation, and an EGP 10,000 guarantee to stop the execution of the sentence until an appeal is filed against the ruling.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk published the text of the court ruling against Mortada Mansour as follows:
“Mortada Mansour, the president of Zamalek Club, has been sentenced to 3 months in prison on charges of insulting and defaming Mahmoud El Khatib, the president of Al Ahly Club. The verdict also includes a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds, temporary civil compensation of 10,000 Egyptian pounds, and a bail of 10,000 Egyptian pounds to suspend the execution of the sentence pending an appeal.
“The Public Prosecution referred Mansour to trial for punishment according to 6 articles of the Penal Code and one article of the Communications Regulation Law, following an investigation into the complaint filed by Mohamed Othman, the legal advisor of Al Ahly Club, and Mahmoud El-Khatib’s lawyer.
“The Prosecution stated that Mansour publicly insulted Mahmoud Ibrahim Ibrahim El-Khatib on August 18, 2022, in Al-Agouza police station jurisdiction. He accused him of things that, if true, would lead to his contempt among his fellow citizens and his legal punishment.
“The Prosecution further mentioned that this occurred during a phone interview on the live broadcast of the “Zamalkawy” program on the Zamalek channel, accessible to the public, as well as the recorded video published on Zamalek’s YouTube channel.
“The Prosecution also charged the former president of Zamalek Club with publicly insulting the aforementioned El-Khatib by using derogatory words and phrases that offended his honor and reputation during a phone interview on the program and in the recorded video published on Zamalek’s YouTube channel, as mentioned in the previous charges.
“In the third accusation, the Prosecution stated that Mansour intentionally harassed and annoyed the victim by misusing communication devices, committing the two crimes mentioned in the previous charges.”
This is not the first time Mortada Mansour to be sentenced to prison time, as the battle between the two club presidents has seen previous rulings.
El-Khatib had previously claimed that Mansour was taking advantage of his parliamentary immunity, which the Zamalek’s president misused.
In February, Mortada Mansour has been sentenced to one month in jail for verbally insulting Mahmoud El-Khatib, which led to Mansour’s displacement from his role as Zamalek president by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in April, 2023
