Mortada Mansour faces prison sentence for slandering Mahmoud El-Khatib

Zamalek president Mortada Mansour is facing a one-month prison sentence for publicly insulting Al Ahly chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib.

Al Ahly chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib had filed two defamation cases against Mortada Mansour for the latter’s insulting comments back in 2021.

The pair have had a tense relationship in the past with both clubs filing lawsuits to claim the “African Club of the Century” title two years ago.

El-Khatib had previously claimed that Mansour was taking advantage of his parliamentary immunity, which was misused by the Zamalek’s president.

However, Mansour had lost the Parliamentary elections in late 2020, meaning his immunity had been lifted starting from January last year.

As a result, the 69-year-old faced repercussions as he lost two defamation lawsuits brought to court by El-Khatib.

The court had ruled in El-Khatib’s favour initially giving Mansour two years in prison but his sentence has now changed following the appeal.

Mansour is now set for one month behind bars as the Economic Court revealed on Wednesday despite Zamalek announcing the dismissal of the case just a month ago
