Sundowns

Two of Mamelodi Sundowns’ players Themba Zwane and Sphelele Mkhulise have been injured one week before their clash against Al Ahly.

Sundowns were drawn with Al Ahly in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals and are set to visit them on Friday, May 14.

Both sides faced each other in the past two editions of the CAF Champions League, both times in the same round and Sundowns came out victorious two years ago with Al Ahly coming on top last year.

The Red Devils and their South African counterpart have been in poor form lately, with Sundowns winning just two of their last six games while Al Ahly dropped seven points in their last five games.

To add insult to injury, two of Sundowns’ players Kermit Erasmus and Aubrey Modiba were stretched off the pitch after getting injured last week against Orlando Pirates.

They were now handed a second double-injury during their win over Maritzburg United on Tuesday afternoon.

Just 12 minutes into the game, the team’s striker Themba Zwane was subbed off for Promise Mkhuma after feeling some discomfort. Then in the 62nd minute, midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise was attended by the medical staf before leaving the pitch.

The diagnosis on their injury hasn’t been revealed yet and it’s unclear if they’ll be fit before the Al Ahly match.
