Sundowns coach promises Al Ahly to play fairly against Al Hilal

Sundowns coach promises Al Ahly to play fairly against Al Hilal

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has assured his counterpart at Al Ahly Marcel Koller that his side will play fairly in their game against Al Hilal.

The Cairo giants were beaten 5-2 by Mamelodi Sundowns in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stages on Saturday.

The defeat meant that Al Ahly now must win their remaining two group-stage games in addition to Al Hilal not beating Sundowns in Sudan if they want to make it through.

In the case of Al Hilal winning their tie against already-qualified Sundowns, it will mean Al Ahly will officially be knocked out even if they come out victorious in their two games.

On Saturday afternoon, Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller said: “I hope that Sundowns play in their next two matches with honor.”

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena responded to these claims, assuring Al Ahly and their fans he will play fairly and will try to win in Sudan.

“We are honest, believe me, we are honest, we will do the best we can, we want to win football matches and it’s important that we continue to win football matches,” Mokwena said in the post-match press conference.

“And if my colleague thinks we will not, he can 100% be guaranteed that we will give everything to win the next couple of matches, every single match we try to win, we play to win, we work to win every single day.

“We will play even more fairly, if he has any doubts, he can be 100% guaranteed.”
