Mamelodi Sundowns assistant Rulani Mokwena heaped praise on Percy Tau with the forward reportedly set to leave Al Ahly.

Tau had completed a permanent transfer to Al Ahly from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, signing a three-year contract at the Red Castle.

The 28-year-old had a good start to life in Egypt, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 28 games for Al Ahly across all competitions.

His contributions have inspired Al Ahly to win the 2021 CAF Super Cup and reach the CAF Champions League final this season.

However, he has been going through rough form recently with the Reds, having not scored or assisted in domestic competitions since November of 2021.

While Al Ahly have not provided an update on Tau’s status, recent reports have confirmed that Tau has already parted ways with the club.

“I don’t know much about Percy being unsettled. [He is] an incredible human being also, top, top kid and a very good football player,” Mokwena told reporters.

“I can’t speak about him because I don’t think Al Ahly have officially made a statement on Percy and therefore, because he’s not a free agent and because he belongs to a club that we have huge respect for, it becomes very difficult to comment.

“But if you wanna ask me about the person and the footballer, you know my opinion, but I’d refrain from speaking about Percy because he belongs to another club,” he added.
